  • Movie Name: El Camino A Breaking Bad Movie

“A farewell letter for the Breaking Bad fans, El Camino A Breaking Bad Movie is an ending that I never realized was missing. Solely led by Aaron Paul’s career’s best performance and Vince Gilligan’s extremely well-written and well-directed film. While it provides closure and ends Breaking Bad/Pinkman in a satisfying way the movie doesn’t misses usual Breaking Bad tension, hilarity, badassery, and deft filmmaking.”

    SharpRatings: 9 - #Amazing

I am a big fan of the #BreakingBad series, in fact, I consider the show to be the greatest of all time. The way Breaking Bad ended was perfect, every nit and knocks were handled well. On the surface, we never wanted a movie that would continue the story. However before watching #Netflix’s #ElCaminoABreakingBadMovie, I revisited the series from start there is one minor hole that required filling, this farewell movie does exactly that. The hole was the end, the final moments when #JessePinkman runs away in the El Camino, laughing hysterical and in unbelief. This moment ended the series and left the ending ambiguously for many different interpretations, for years fans have created many theories and alternate endings until #VinceGilligan arrived along with #AaronPaul for a final chapter in an already finalized chapter. The movie is everything you hoped and assumed, it brings our Jesse Pinkman (Paul) as an outlaw after the aftermath of the #WalterWhite assault, he is being hunted by the police, DEA and some of Jack’s leftover gang against all odds Pinkman tries to get away to start new. More or less El Camino as the movie is very much like the old Western movie, an outlaw trying to get away from enforcers, hell, they even give the finale a *** showdown just like any western movie. The film holds the same filmmaking as the series Breaking Bad, Vince Gilligan’s solid direction like the movie’s story is continual. The storytelling is very deep and strong, the main character is given a lot of screentime. I really enjoyed the film’s silent but meaningful cinematography that provides its character, the story a lot just like Breaking Bad did. Even though the movie has pacing issues the film is never forced, every moment is build up very nicely. Talking about the film’s look then film presents itself like any other Breaking Bad episode, solid photography and Albuquerque is shown, used as background very well. Though many Breaking Bad characters return, even some that dead over at the show. The movie uses a smart way to bring back. Though I was not a big fan of the aging actor that tried to provide the same feel and looks like the show. For example, Todd was looking very apart from the show, he put on some pounds which really didn’t help the character similarly when Aaron Paul at the end is given a scene where he tries to provide a scene similar to season 2’s Jesse with Jane doesn’t really hit me as director hoped for. I would have liked if the director avoided scenes like this. I know you cant expect the actors to be the same after 5 years. Though one actor brings the same energy as the show, Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman. The actor has gained many good shows and average movies behind his belt after the show. The flawed character and now broken character is played phenomenally by Aaron Paul. Who provides so much depth, the emotions of a man suffering from PTSD and many mental scars are fantastically this has to be his finest performance. The returning actors are great too, Mike, Walter White, Jane and not to mention quick favorite Badger and Skinny Pete are outstanding as well. Their minor roles feel like cameos but they add so many layers to the main character Jesse Pinkman, they help him one way or another. Yes, one could argue that El Camino is an unnecessarily extended episode of Breaking Bad, that simply fills a gap that was already filled in fans' imaginations. But the quality of this execution cannot be argued with. Vince Gilligan's care and respect for Breaking Bad is to be admired. because it's almost impossible to believe this wasn't filmed right after Felina. Vince Gilligan clearly stopped at nothing to get the details almost right. The movie is a fan service that doesn’t overdo while telling a solid story. There is a formula and it sticks to it, doesn’t dumb down things for the show or its outstanding characters. Breaking Bad remains to be my favorite show and El Camino only adds more icing on the cake, provides fans closure and serves a satisfactory end for not only Jesse Pinkman but Breaking Bad. Overall the story is very much like you will predict it but it’s the way it is presented that makes it great. El Camino is one of finest movies of the year and a must-watch for any Breaking Bad fan, for whom the movie is mainly made.

    Bonus
Career’s best Aaron Paul performance. Vince Gilligan’s strong direction. Cinematography. Superb and spectacular screenplay.

  • River’ Review: A Gorgeous and Meditative Documentary Examines Our Relationship to the Arteries of Our Planet | Telluride 2021 [Part 2 - End]
    By Matt Goldberg / Collider.com
    On September 3, 2021

Peedom wisely doesn’t rely on talking heads or anything to break the flow of her film. River thus becomes not only a subject but also a filmmaking ethos, a way to carry the viewer to the points Peedom wants to make, and while the script does make those points directly, they’re never made as forcefully as the images we see before us.

One might think that when the film starts exploring pollution and the damage we’ve done to rivers that the film would turn into agitprop, but Peedom keeps her movie slow and steady, having Dafoe calmly narrate, “There’s always a downstream cost.” It’s a movie that never feels the need to raise its voice, and that control makes what it has to say all the more powerful. Peedom also doesn’t ignore the double-edged sword and that sometimes there are no easy answers. Yes, damming a river can bring electricity to places that need it, but that will cause stagnation and environmental damage. But every argument the film makes is always made more visually than vocally. If ever a film showed the value of showing instead of telling, River demonstrates that essential filmmaking lesson.

River is a poetic argument made potent. It uses imagery and personification to make its points come alive. Rather than a dry scolding about the importance of our natural resources, River invites us in and shows us why this ecology is not only beautiful but vital. The ecological dance depicted is both sublime and divine, and through its God’s-eye-view, we gain a new perspective on our world and what we owe to it.

    Rating: A

  • Series Name: I Know This Much is True

“Best Mark Ruffalo performance of his career. I Know This Much Is True is a very slow burn tragic drama that never sees sunshine. Its gloomy, sad and sobfest, leaves you with bitter taste rather than satisfying one.”

    SharpRatings: 9 - #Amazing

#DerekCianfrance is no stranger to drama, I would say all his movies are based on sad romance/drama. Derek is the perfect choice for #IKnowThisMuchIsTrue. A mini-series that is the epitome of sadness and tragic event. The show is the most tragic, gloomy, and saddest show I have ever seen. It's a very slow burn but thanks to #MarkRuffalo you get past many scenes. Normally a show would knock down a character in its narrative and by the end of the show or episode you just know there is a rainbow, meaning the character would get a happy ending but not for I Know This Much is True, over the course of 6 episodes the show repeatedly throws, knocks and brings our main character down with dark themes, past, and characters. Ruffalo plays twins in the series, Dominick and Thomas Birdsey, Dominick is a painter who has dedicated his life to protect and take care of his schizophrenic brother. In doing so, Dominick has neglected his personal life, relationship, and duties. When we meet Dominick, he is already living a ruined life, over the 6 episodes dark past and revelations come to light and we see Dominick’s ruin life fall down even more. This has to be the best performance I have seen by Mark Ruffalo. It is pitch-perfect and without doubt the best of the year. Mark Ruffalo delivers what may be the finest performance of his career. Gritty, challenging. As Dominick he dominates but we also see his dynamic presence as Thomas, even though it's a minor appearance we see Ruffalo playing a demanding role as Thomas. Directed by Derek Cianfrance, the series resembles any of his films, the beautiful, grey-yet-beautiful cinematography. That would end being one of the underrated highlights of I Know This Much is True. Most of the scenes play out with smart scores and photography. People who are accustomed to films from Cianfrance would know what to expect from his HBO miniseries. The story is good and the frenetic nature of the plot pulls you in. You are left with questions, for example, Dominick never learns who his father is from his mother (#MelissaLeo) and he constantly questions his own identity throughout the series. His lack of knowledge about his father leads to anger towards his stepfather, Ray (#JohnProcaccino). Not having a loving father figure makes him question his self-worth and why his father would not want to raise him and his brother. Anger and sadness are interchangeable, similar to love and hate. The mystery of his father contributes to the mood of the series well. The ending of the show is rather let-down for me but overall it's still a great ending. Overall, The successful casting is the main triumph here and probably gives this film series more credence than it may have otherwise accomplished but we can't take away from the production and filmmaking of solid series.
