  • ‘Twelve Minutes’ Launch Trailer Builds Anticipation for Time-Loop Thriller Game Ahead of Release

Only two days for us to get stuck in a terrible evening.

By Marco Vito Oddo / Collider.com
    Published 7 hours ago

Annapurna Interactive released a new trailer for Twelve Minutes ahead of the game’s launch on PC and Xbox consoles. The new trailer gives us the longest look yet at Luis Antonio’s mysterious time-loop thriller, teasing the core concept that’ll guide each run of the game while players try to escape the worst 12 minutes of their lives.

In the trailer, a man (voiced by James McAvoy) tries to explain to his wife (voiced by Daisy Ridley) that he already knows how the night will go by. First, she’ll tell him she’s pregnant. Then, a stranger (voiced by Willem Dafoe) will come into their apartment to arrest them, hurt them, or maybe even kill them. The man is stuck in a loop of 12 minutes for a reason he doesn’t understand, and in the little time he has left before the clock resets, he tries to save his wife from an unfortunate fate.

It’s a tense scene that reveals all the anguish of the sad situation the man is trapped in. And it surely helps to build our hype for the game’s release.

Twelve Minutes was first announced by Annapurna back in 2019, but the game gained traction when the all-star voice cast was revealed in 2020. Since then, Twelve Minutes has been part of everyone’s list of most-anticipated games for 2021. The promise of multiple endings and a branching narrative also helps to build the excitement around the game, which might become one of the most unusual interactive stories we ever got to play.

Twelve Minutes comes to Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Steam this Thursday, August 19. Check the new trailer below.

  • Willem Dafoe Is Hyped to Play the Villain Opposite Daisy Ridley in ‘Twelve Minutes’

”Because you’re not presenting anything but your voice, you can do anything,“ he tells TheWrap about his voiceover work

By Samson Amore / The Wrap
    On August 12, 2021 at 9:00 AM

A new thriller video game from indie studio Annapurna Interactive called “Twelve Minutes” comes out Aug. 19 and has a stacked cast — including “Spider-Man” fan favorite Willem Dafoe, who said he’s excited to see how the innovative game turns out.

“Twelve Minutes” is about a man (voiced by James McAvoy) who’s sitting down for a nice dinner at home with his wife (played by Daisy Ridley) when an intruder (Dafoe) bursts in, accuses the wife of murdering someone, then beats the man to death. Taking a page from Harold Ramis’ “Groundhog Day,” the game’s director Luis Antonio structured “Twelve Minutes” around a time loop that repeats in — you guessed it — 12-minute intervals. The player’s job is to run through the scenario enough times to break out of the loop and solve the crime.

“I enjoy doing voice work. I liked how Luis pitched it. It seemed like it was a thoughtful, interesting approach just how it was structured,” Dafoe told TheWrap in a video call, adding, “The mind of the game was interesting to me.”

Willem Dafoe said he agreed to sign on in part because of the game’s stellar cast — he was eager to work with “Star Wars” starlet Daisy Ridley, in particular.

“I know Daisy Ridley and James McAvoy were already committed to it and they’re both very good actors, and I enjoy working with them,” Dafoe said. “I had worked with Daisy before on ‘Murder on the Orient Express.’ I thought she was wildly, really talented; and she’s real sweet and smart and fun. And James, I didn’t know personally, but I know his work. These are very good actors and I enjoyed working with them.”

Despite the insanely talented cast of actors, Dafoe admitted the game is kind of an experimental project and said, “Basically, I’m going in blind, but I got a good feeling.”

“Twelve Minutes” didn’t have the lead actors do motion-capture work. Unlike most games, the voiceover work happened in isolation because Annapurna Interactive was following strict coronavirus guidelines and Dafoe said he didn’t interact with Ridley and McAvoy as much as he’d have liked to under normal circumstances.

“We’re all kind of in the same boat, and we bounce off each other (but) we weren’t in the same room. But we’re listening to each other, and we’re on Zoom,” Willem Dafoe said. He pointed out that in the game, the husband and wife have no idea who his character the intruder even is, so the isolation the actors experienced while making “Twelve Minutes” was oddly in keeping with the theme.

“In the game, we’re all strangers, and we’re dealing with the situation, so that’s what we were doing as actors,” Dafoe said.

Dafoe noted that unlike movies (and some video games that rely heavily on facial motion capture for cutscenes), “Twelve Minutes” didn’t need to sync voice-overs, which gave him, Ridley and McAvoy more room to play with the script.

“We’re not syncing to picture, so it’s quite freeing and quite flexible,” Dafoe said. “You just try to be present for the situation in each of the variations and that’s quite a trick to do. But because you’re not presenting anything but your voice, you can do anything. So you can work psychologically, you can work rhythmically, you can work sonically, you can do all three at the same time.”

Designer Luis Antonio told TheWrap the game is heavily inspired by horror movies from David Fincher and Alfred Hitchcock. Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” is also a huge influence (the infamous hexagonal pattern design from the rugs at the Overlook Hotel makes an appearance in the game’s background) and Christopher Nolan’s “Memento.”

Willem Dafoe isn’t new to voiceover work in games. He told TheWrap he’s been working on them since the release of “James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing,” when he gave voice to gangster Nikolai Diavolo. In addition to the Bond title, Dafoe’s contributed voice work to Quantic Dream’s “Beyond Two Souls,” starring Elliot Page and reprised his role as the beloved villain Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in the 2002 “Spider-Man” video game based on the Sam Raimi films.

“I’ve enjoyed all the games that I’ve done. Working with David Cage, and ‘Beyond Two Souls’ with Elliott Page was really fun because we were also doing (motion capture) work,” Dafoe said. “You’re creating all these elements that then are concretized by the designers in the computer visualization of it — it’s interesting because when you’re a performer, you are the reality. But here, you’re contributing to a reality, you’re creating a thread that they’re going to weave into something else and while you don’t always have control, there’s a great freedom in what you create.”

“It’s fun, it’s, it’s fast, it’s fluid and it can be emotional,” Dafoe added.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Stills Reveal Doc Ock, Electro & Green Goblin

By Jacob Campbell / Full Circle Cinema
    Posted on August 22, 2021

Sunday evening the trailer for Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home leaked online. Now stills from the film have also leaked revealing the first look at Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, and Willem Dafoe as Doctor Octopus, Electro, and Green Goblin.

The stills have revealed fans’ first look at the stars from the previous Spider-Man franchises. While the trailer featured a glimpse of Molina’s Doc Ock this is the first look at Foxx and Dafoe.

The stills seem to be from before visual effects, given Molina does not have his arms. Another interesting note is that it appears Dafoe is wearing Green Goblin’s hood from the comics. This would suggest the character will have a more natural design in comparison to his costume in the original film.

The upcoming sequel boasts a stacked cast, including Holland, Zendaya, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Benedict Cumberbatch, and supposedly Andrew Garfield, Kirsten Dunst, Charlie Cox, Willem Dafoe, and Tobey Maguire. Unfortunately, none of these stars have been spotted on set save for Holland and Zendaya.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will swing into theaters on December 17, 2021.

  • Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin Confirmed in ‘No Way Home’ Trailer

By Alex Lue / Inside the Magic
    Posted on August 23, 2021

The official trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) has been released, and Marvel Studios fans were quick to spot the familiar cackle of one of Marvel’s greatest villains.

The internet is buzzing over the No Way Home trailer, breaking viewing records and ushering in a new wave of excitement for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Nonetheless, every Marvel fan was quick to spot little details in the official teaser trailer, one of them being the chilling cackle of Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn/Green Goblin and his legendary pumpkin bombs from actor Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man (2002).

Actor Willem Dafoe has remained quiet on his possible appearance in No Way Home, even recently dodging a question altogether about the Marvel movie.

That laugh and pumpkin bomb from the Green Goblin is undoubtedly that of Willem Dafoe, who’ll be making his official jump to the MCU and return to the Marvel Universe in nearly 20 years with No Way Home.

The Marvel Universe is expanding with the Sinister Six, seemingly confirmed in the No Way Home trailer.

Fans were quick to spot the yellow-colored lightning bolts from Electro (Jamie Foxx) and even formidable sand from Sandman as Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) takes on numerous new villains after he and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) accidentally open a rift in their timeline, ushering in the Multiverse and Spider-Verse.

Tom Holland’s episodic sixth Marvel feature film, including Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018), will be the last in his current Sony/Disney contract. Still, Marvel isn’t sparing an ounce of excitement for the Spider-Man movie.

Holland’s franchise is shaking up the rest of the Marvel Universe, something that WandaVision and Loki helped usher in on Disney+ .

Peter is going to need backup, and we’re not just talking about Doctor Strange. It’s evident that actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the two previous Peter Parker actors from their respective franchises, could have a massive role in the movie as villains from their worlds terrorize Tom Holland’s universe.

Green Goblin’s pumpkin bombs not only ushered in a blast of excitement, but the return of Marvel legend Willem Dafoe. Willem Dafoe did appear in Spider-Man 3 (2007), but only for brief moments. His involvement in No Way Home, big or small, will be undeniably influential and overwhelming.

Fans are ready to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters on December 17, 2021. Don’t miss an ounce of the adventure!

  • Western ‘Dead for a Dollar’ filming in Santa Fe

By Adrian Gomez / Journal Arts and Entertainment Editor / Albuquerque Journal
    Tuesday, August 24th, 2021 at 3:44 PM

Walter Hill is known for his action films and revival of the Western genre.

The acclaimed director is at the helm of “Dead for a Dollar,” which is currently filming in Santa Fe through August.

The cast is loaded with A-list actors Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe and Rachel Brosnahan.

    Hill also wrote the script.

The film is set in the New Mexico Territory, Chihuahua in 1897.

It follows Max Borlund, played by Waltz, who is a famed bounty hunter, hired to find and return Rachel Price. She is the wife of Nathan Price, a successful Santa Fe businessman and has been kidnapped for ransom.

Borlund travels to Mexico and runs into Joe Cribbens, played by Dafoe, who is his sworn enemy.

Borland finds out that Rachel Price has fled from her abusive husband and is faced with the decision of leaving her or returning her to Santa Fe.

“It’s exciting to have western genre legend Walter Hill in New Mexico with an incredible cast and crew to shoot ‘Dead for a Dollar,’ ” said Amber Dodson, New Mexico Film Office director.

The production will employ approximately 80 New Mexico crew members, 20 New Mexico principal cast members, and 40 New Mexico background and extras, according to the New Mexico Film Office.

The film is being produced by Berry Meyerowitz, Neil Dunn, Carolyn McMaster, Kirk D’Amico and Jeremy Wall. Executive Producers are Jeff Sackman, Larry Greenberg, Waltz, Lawrence Mortorff, and Alex Habrich.

“Walter Hill is an important figure in American movie history and he returns to his most potent genre — the Western,” the producers said in a release. “We are thrilled to shoot in the No. 1 western location in the world — New Mexico.”
