Marvel's The Falcon and The Winter Soldier feels like it would be much more well paced if it was binged but we love how it establishes the real-world consequences of the #MCU’s disastrous blip. The character development is nearly fantastic all-round, up until the finale where it unfortunately falters by abruptly wrapping up the arcs of a series stand-out, John Walker A.K.A. USAgent and the titular #WinterSoldier as well, who really has nothing much on his plate when compared to the powerful #BlackEmpowerment storyline that was rightly given to #TheFalcon who has a hard time taking up the mantle of #CaptainAmerica passed onto him by #SteveRogers in #AvengersEndgame. This is especially written well and we also thought the inclusion of the #CivilWar antagonist Helmut Zemo was ingenious just because of the resulting unpredictability in character dynamics. The main disappointment in this show is caused due to its villains who come off as under-cooked which could be attributed to the major plot re-writes that took place because of the ongoing pandemic. Ever since Warner Bros. Pictures pounced on James Gunn to helm The Suicide Squad after the latter’s brief exit from #Marvel, I was hella psyched to see what his vision for the #TaskForceX would be like. And boy, he does not disappoint. #JamesGunn smartly adapts the style of the John Ostrander #Comicbook run of #TheSuicideSquad that dealt with B-grade supervillains that are pretty much considered losers but even they have heart, albeit in certain circumstances. The visionary director brings his own stylistic brand of outrageous fun & brilliant character work as it certainly looks like this is the #Film that he has received the most creative freedom on in his entire #SuperheroMovie career. This is in sharp contrast to the film’s predecessor which was a hodgepodge of a mess because of the studio’s intervention in David Ayer’s #SuicideSquad. But the earlier film does set up a few characters that Gunn uses to his advantage so props for that. Even with a lot going for the film including it’s terrific pacing, war comedy setting & characters, there are still moments that weigh it down including a few jokes that just don’t land. Free Guy was such a pleasant surprise! I really didn’t think I’ll be catching this at the cinemas but after hearing the positive buzz around the film and when Reel Cinemas by Emaar sent invites for the #UAE #Premiere at #DolbyCinema, I was definitely intrigued. Ryan Reynolds plays a character that’s not so different from the wise-cracking & sarcastic persona that he has decided to embrace off-late (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it) but it’s perfect for this kind of #Film. The movie’s concept of a #VideoGame with #NPC’s becoming sentient is a brilliant hook that is genuinely well executed as a fun & offbeat romantic comedy. #Westworld closes out a beautifully thought-provoking #Season that deals with the overarching #Theme of #Choice. This #TVShow does a great job of evolving and reinventing itself by getting out of the simulated park setting and heading over to the real #World where humans tend to imitate #AI rather than the other way around. It is certainly out there in terms of its execution with fewer elements of mystery than before but its freshness is appreciated.
