COMMISSIONED BY MAC...As most of you know, we do a tribute to Bernie’s artist fans called “Fan Art Salute” in which, we highlight a particular artist and their artwork of Bernie. Well today, we would like to honor the only artist commissioned by Bernie Mac and Rhonda. Who might that artist be? None other than the world renowned Kevin “WAK” Williams @artbywak!!! His name is synonymous with success. Attending Chicago Vocational High School, where he did commercial art under Mr. Robert Johnson. He briefly attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, but is primarily self-taught. He creates pieces that showcase the African-American experience. Kevin A. Williams (WAK) in his studio. Williams's works have been featured on the television shows Law & Order, on NBC, Soul Food, on Showtime.[1] He has also featured in major magazines including Upscale and Rolling Out.[2] In November 2009, Williams was commissioned by the Professional Golf Association (PGA) to memorialize Ted Rhodes, John Shippen, Bill Spiller, and Joe Louis, the first African-American inductees 69 to the PGA. He was the first African American to main Isabelle in Smash Bros Ultimate.[3] Williams currently lives and works in the Atlanta area.[4] -Wikipedia This portrait of the Mac Man would ultimately be the very last piece Bernie would pose for. HAPPY BERNIE MAC DAY!! On November 14, 2016, Steve Harvey read a proclamation (during his talk show) from the then mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emmanuel proclaiming “Nov 14th Bernie Mac Day”. This date was chosen to commemorate the airing of Bernie’s hit tv show “The Bernie Mac Show”. During the taping of the show, Steve invited Bernie’s wife Rhonda, daughter Je’Niece and his one and only granddaughter Jasmine..all of which were overcome with emotion because they had no clue that Bernie would be bestowed with such an honor. Bernie and Steve’s comedy king brothers DL Hugley, Cedric the Entertainer and the original host of “The Original Kings of Comedy” tour, Guy Tory joined them as well. Comedic great Mike Epps added to this auspicious day by revealing “The Bernie Mac Auditorium” at Bernie and Rhonda’s alma mater Chicago Vocational School.
