MANILA — Davao ity Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Wednesday thanked her supporters disappointed by her decision to rule out a presidential bid in 2022.

"Nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng kapwa ko Pilipino na nagpapahayag ng kanilang tiwala at pagsuporta sa akin. Suportang hindi lang nagmula sa Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao kundi pati na sa ibang bansa, sa pamamagitan ng mga kababayan nating OFW," Duterte-Carpio said in a video message.
The Davao City mayor last week said she will not run for president in 2022 following her father President Rodrigo Duterte's decision to run for vice president, citing their agreement that only one Duterte will seek a national post.

Instead, Duterte-Caprio rallied her supporters to back her father's candidacy next year.
"Meron kaming maayos na kasunduan ni Pangulong Duterte sa aming kani-kaniyang karera sa pulitika. Ibigay po natin sa kaniya ang pinakamalakas natin na suporta sa kaniyang desisyon na tumakbong vice president,” Duterte-Carpio said.

Duterte-Carpio said she hopes her supporters will continue to back her endeavors even outside the election.
“Pinapaabot ko ang aking taos pusong pasasalamat sa mahigit kumulang 700 parallel groups na nag-oorganisa para ako ay tumakbong pangulo. Ito ay isang karangalan na hindi nabibili at hindi ibinibigay sa lahat ng pulitiko... Sana ay ituloy natin ang pagtulong sa ating mga kababayan, kahit hindi para sa kandidatura o sa eleksyon," Duterte-Carpio said.
Despite her announcement, several analysts said this should be taken with a "grain of salt" considering her father's similar strategy in 2016.

The Commission on Elections will start accepting certificates of candidacy for all positions on October 1 to 8.
