  • Remembering the anniversary of Gregory's passing, June 12, 2003. In his words: “You have to dream, you have to have a vision, and you have to set a goal for yourself that might even scare you a little because sometimes that seems far beyond your reach. Then I think you have to develop a kind of resistance to rejection, and to the disappointments that are sure to come your way.”

  • Gregory talks about an early memory that shaped his life: "One of my earliest and most vivid memories is of a Klan incident, the burning of a cross in front of a house rented by a black family in the small town of La Jolla, California. It was in the early 1920s, when I was about 5 years old, but I remember it well. It must have been my first awareness that hate and violence existed in the world. The incident shocked me, and I suppose the concept of resisting and fighting racial injustice took root and as I grew up became part of my character.”

  • Gregory and Charlton Heston made the epic western The Big Country together in 1958, and remained friends for the rest of their lives. Though they didn't always agree on issues, they had the greatest respect and admiration for one another. When GP received the AFI Life Achievement Award, this is what Mr. Heston said in tribute: “There are a lot of good actors in this town, there is none more gifted than he. There are fewer true stars, there is none whom the camera more genuinely loves, nor to whom the audiences turn as a flower to the sun, as to Greg. His status as a private and public citizen is admirable, the causes he has spoken for, some of which we have disagreed on, but he has spoken with eloquence, passion, and integrity that is undeniable, and I honor him for that."
Couldn't we all learn something from the respect Greg and Chuck had for each other in spite of their differences of opinion
