• The short version: Roxie Roz Burlesque Show in collaboration with the Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival is seeking submissions for stand-ups, storytellers and more! Paid opportunity.

    The long version:
Roxie Roz is collaborating with the Philadelphia Jewish Film and Media (they are in the midst of a name change from Gershman Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival) to curate a 90 to 100 minute short film program, based on the theme besheret / romantic destiny, with burlesque, drag, storytelling and short films.
This will be a pre-recorded live streamed through the PJFM virtual platform on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 7pm.
    ABOUT THE THEME
The Jewish concept of beshert usually refers to the idea that each of us has a “soulmate” or an “other half” we were destined for. In fact, the literal translation of beshert from Yiddish means “destiny.” Do you believe in destiny? Are you convinced that we are preordained to meet the people that we meet, love the people that we love, and live the life that we are living? If so, how does the concept of beshert reconcile with our notion of free will? Or, for the religious among us, how does free will cohabitate with divine providence – the idea that God watches over us, guides us, and even interferes with our affairs?
Philadelphia Jewish Film and Media and Roxie Roz Burlesque collective (Atlanta, GA) invite you to explore these ideas (and all their contradictions) in an inevitably fun evening of burlesque and drag performance, storytelling, and cinema.
ROXIE ROZ COMMITTMENT TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
Priority goes to those performers that are in marginalized communities (BIPOC, disabled, trans/non-binary, neurodivergent).
