Throwback Thursday – 1980 Remembering when our Eastabrook Photography team photographed Steve Martin in-studio for the “All New Photos” for his book “Cruel Shoes” (his first published book). This was certainly a team effort. Part of my role was to source the props for these images. Because the set-up was only loosely pre-designed by the art director this meant I worked to locate and obtain the desk, chair, wire waste basket and overhead light in three sizes (small, medium and large) from various prop houses around Hollywood, as well as various other possible props. This was a fun shoot as we got to work with Steve for the better part of a day and it was fascinating to watch him as he morphed in and out of character for his “part.” As an added benefit I got to deliver the final images to Steve at his home in Tuluca Lake, CA. Movie Name: Fantasia 2000 “An updated sequel that is stunning and approachable but Fantasia 2000 feels more like an homage than being creative like Fantasia.” SharpRatings: 7 - #Good I was hoping to see a #Fantasia film to be released every decade or so however it took almost 60 years for #Disney to create another Fantasia film, #Fantasia2000. The sequel is more or less an update on the previous movie. With newer technology in both animation, sound, and other technical departments. Disney sought to be very different. Hired comedians and big names like #JamesEarlJones, #SteveMartin, and #QuincyJones. The film was also cut down from a 2-hour long runtime to safer runtime we are used to for an animated movie even though Fantasia 2000 has one extra segment raising the count to 8. All segments are new and refreshing however one is exactly the same as the original Fantasia, Sorcerer’s Apprentice. My favorite would be #PinesOfRome and #PianoConvertoNo2AllegroOpus102. The stories aren’t really great here and not as exciting or interesting as the original film. I think they added human characters and that mostly took away the charm. The first Fantasia was not only original in its conception but also daring and experimental in its visuals and the stories told. Creativity was overflowing. That cannot be said about Fantasia 2000, although the contrary could be expected. This movie is more a good homage and revival of the first, than a daring experimental movie. This film has technological updates which make it more visually impressive than the original. The music was rousing as always. Overall, while this update is still a masterful achievement of sound in animation, it doesn't quite match the power of the first feature.
