  • Movie Name: Zack Snyder’s Justice League

“Far from being DCEU’s best film, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is overstuffed, overlong and uneven superhero movie something we already saw Snyder deliver yet there is improvement and absolution in Snyder Cut that makes it worthy and undeniably better than 2017 Justice League.”

    SharpRatings: 6 - #Okay

It took years before #ZackSnydersJusticeLeague actually came to fruition, before a 4 hours long film. The title was just a hashtag, #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. The film is a triumph, a vindication for the director, #ZackSnyder. The talks about a Snyder Cut were already being hinted at by the director since the 2017 #JusticeLeague. A movie where Snyder stepped down and ultimately the film fell in laps of studios who hired #JossWhedon to complete a version that is more aligned with the studio’s vision. The 2017 version was enjoyable but it was foolish, silly, and incoherent. Without much lingering luggage from #BatmanVSuperman, Whedon was able to sew a film that was near something we can call a film. However, all that is in a pass as Zack Snyder’s Justice League mostly demolishes the 2017 version.

The film is quite different with its approach, storytelling, premise, and characterization. ZS Justice League is a totally different film. The film follows the film opens differently, as scenes from last movie BvS, we see and hear last breath of #Superman going around the world, all the way to the Amazon, where it does more damage than just harm, bringing #Stepphenwolf to earth, Batman (#BruceWayne) recruiting a team to fight the fight of earth from an invasion of an all-powerful entity. The film opens and you will wonder if ZS-JL is even different from the 2017 version, scenes are similar but once the dialogues come in you will notice how drastically a simple thing like dialogue can change a scene and characters in it. There is a lot of new footage, scenes, and action to enjoy. There are many scenes that return from the 2017 version but even they now appreciative, for example, the battle when Justice League tries to contain Superman or well-written Steppenwolf’s character is now. The whole sequence looks the same but when you watch both of them you will notice how solid Snyder’s vision is. It’s evident how freedom Zack Snyder had made this cut. It contains all of his directional trademark from slow-mo scenes to high-note scores, his visionary direction is the highlight of his Justice League.

There is a cinematic experience like no other, I mean there is no superhero movie that marks a 4-hour long runtime. However, Zack Snyder is unable to fix the problems that made BVS a dull event. Similar problems can also be found here in a script of JL. The choppy screenplay has just too much filler. Zack uses the foundations of his BVS “Why Superman is needed and why he is also dangerous”, while the last part is changed to why he is also the most powerful being. The basis lies in that little part but unlike Whedon cut not everything is about bringing him back. There is a lot of things that add nothing to the plot however unlike Whedon cut, the one actually tells a linear story. It isn’t a bunch of scenes sew together.

The film is divided into six-part and an epilogue. Which I was not a big fan of. I don’t see a point in dividing the movie while the epilogue was just the filmmaker trying to set up different movies. Remember this was supposed to come in 2017, before films like #Aquaman, #Shazam, and #WonderWoman1984. So, the film doesn’t really end on a high note to continue in the reign of these films but set them up differently. Though I really like each character it was #Cyborg who was really the heart of the film, as said by Snyder. #RayFisher delivers a career’s best performance so far as #VictorStone. His sorrow, guilt, and revenge are what drives the film. Unlike Whedon cut, you will notice how much more and greater involvement the character as to the plot. Similarly, while #Flash is still a comic relief, he is more than just that. He is shown with incredible speed. Characters like Batman and Aquaman don’t really get to shine. But it's my favorite character from #DCEU that still has such an amazing role, Wonder Woman. Snyder loves #GalGaddot, all of her scenes are graceful. I just wanna see movies where these characters had their standalone movies but with Snyder connected to the project. I'm not the biggest fan of Snyder movies, but I don’t have to ignore the fact his films don’t lack vision, riskiness, and epic-ness. Like most of Snyder's movies, the film is high on vision.
    .
Big, creative, and beautiful action sequences. I adored the film had enough action to not sleep in a film that is this long. All of the characters have their moments, it feels like redemption because they were hurried in the 2017 movie. These are iconic teams and Snyder gives them respect for their iconic presence. When a director has passion, it shows on screen. The action at times, for me, was repetitive especially watching unnecessary slow motions. The film has a poor score, I will always wonder why #HansZimmer was not called about for this epic comeback. Like the film’s script, the score is all over the place. The melancholic hymn is great the first time you hear but since every slo-mo scene contains that music it gets so jarring and cringe to see and hear. From time to time the film does have theme music from #ManOfSteel and #WonderWoman and the film quickly becomes something else but then it returns to its own score. When I heard about Snyder Cut only thing I wanted to see was a meaningful answer as to why we need Superman, and I'm glad that Snyder had the answer to it.
    .
Overall, it's not groundbreaking, the closest it gets to be innovative in how it uses its runtime for character depth and storytelling. The Classic team build-up movie Justice League gets a second chance and they deliver a mighty assembling. The film has a plethora of reveals, easter eggs, and DC Comics goodies for any superhero fans to enjoy, while with its own flaws and director’s inability to tell a story, Justice League Snyder Cut is a huge improvement over Whedon’s mishap. Fantastic performance, the CGI is good, the cinematography is gorgeous, the action scenes are also really good, it just comes all together nicely but it is far from being DCEU’s best film.
