  • Meta Quest 3 with a breakdown of specs - but unlike most of the armchair quarterbacks out there I actually tried it and can give you the straight dope.

I own a Quest 1, Quest 2 and Quest Pro (among other headsets) so I'm very familiar with the advancements between each model and I'm here to tell you the passthrough experience between the Quest Pro and the Quest 3 is mind-blowing. The grain is barely there, the colors are rich and saturated, there is *no warping or obvious stitching* and - the best part - I can see my external screens!

The first thing I did after putting on the headset was pull my phone out to see how external screens looked on passthrough and it was so much better than the Quest Pro. I could see my lock screen clearly, read the time and date, and the colors even looked pretty close to the ones being displayed on the screen. Granted, it's not perfect but passthrough w/ screens is notoriously hard and this certainly allows you to use your devices without taking your headset off. Again, not perfect but what a difference from the previous Quest HMDs!

The resolution felt markedly improved from the Quest Pro (certainly night and day from the Quest 2), the displays were crisp, and the text in-headset felt much easier to read than the Quest Pro.

The weight was still noticeable (it's a headset, after all) but the distribution definitely feels better and the build quality feels like an upgrade from the Quest 2 (not sure how true this is, but the plastics feel denser and higher quality).

The Quest 3 doesnt have eye-tracking like the Quest Pro (which is honestly one of my favorite aspects of the Pro), which means we also lose foveated rendering - but I have to be honest I didn't feel like I was missing it with the Q3.

I'll have a bit more to say after Connect ends tomorrow!
