'Fundamental human rights are not political.' ๐ขWe agree with the statement of Volt Europa Co-President Reinier van Lanschot in response to UEFA's decision to deny the request of Munich city council to light up their stadium in the colours of the rainbow flag, where Hungary played on Wednesday. โฝ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐ฉ๐ช ๐ญ๐บ This action was in response to the decision by the Hungarian government to adopt a law that removes any reference to the LGBT+ community in public life. Volt Belgium was strongly in favour of this gesture of solidarity. However, UEFA dismissed this suggestion as 'too political', whilst making no comment on the serious infringement of rights taking place in Hungary. ๐ก
Volt Belgium condemns UEFA's decision, as well as the appalling actions of the Hungarian state which instigated this sorry affair. We applaud the struggle of the movements in Hungary that are campaigning for LGBT rights and the EU investigation (backed by sixteen member states) into the legality of the Hungarian legislation. โ๐ช๐บ The rights of sexual and gender minorities must be protected in Europe! ๐ช๐บ โค๏ธ๐งก๐๐๐๐
