Alexander Hamilton: I know you are considered an American hero. You were a Founding Father, soldier, economist, political philosopher, one of America's first constitutional lawyers and the first United States Secretary of the Treasury. As Secretary of the Treasury, You were the primary author of the economic policies of the George Washington administration, especially the funding of the state debts by the Federal government, the establishment of a national bank, a system of tariffs, and friendly trade relations with Britain. He became the leader of the Federalist Party, created largely in support of your views, and was opposed by the Democratic-Republican Party, led by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. You helped found the United States Mint; the first national bank; and an elaborate system of duties, tariffs, and excises. Within five years, the complete Hamiltonian program had replaced the chaotic financial system of the Confederation era with a modern apparatus that gave the new government financial stability and investors sufficient confidence to invest in government bonds. Thank you for all of the work you have done for this nation especially the US treasury, remembering you today after 217 years, may you rest in peace!
