As one of the 1 in 4 women in this country who have chosen to have an abortion, I am outraged, disgusted and disturbed by the reported draft SCOTUS opinion overturning Roe v Wade.

We’ve all heard the saying: “Necessity is the mother of invention.” The proverb, adapted from a quote by Plato, means “when the need for something becomes imperative, you are forced to find ways of getting or achieving it.”

I’ve always said: *Mothers* are the necessity of invention.

And we’re ready to fight.

The need for supporting women everywhere has become imperative. And we are forcing everyone in our path to find ways to achieve it.

There are 2 billion mothers in the world, 85 million of them in the U.S. Some 86% of women ages 40 to 44 are mothers.

When I became a mother, I changed forever. My intuition, my gut instinct, what I accepted, challenged, what and who I walked towards or away from.

We’ve already started to see advertising, content and communication around Mother’s Day. Those same companies should follow up with their unequivocal support of women’s rights.

Don’t tell us you love us.

Show us.

Show us through policy...like Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's announcement Thursday that New Mexico will cover the costs of child care for most residents through June 2023.

Show us through offerings...like MH’s Motherboard — of which I’m proud and honored to serve alongside Blessing Adesiyan, Eve Rodsky, Christine Michel Carter, Erin Erenberg, Mary Beth Ferrante, PCC, and so many others.

Show us through products and services...like Allyson Felix's Saysh Maternity Returns, a policy by her sneaker brand that offers free sneakers for women whose shoe size changes during pregnancy.

Show us through inclusion...like Emma Lovewell and Robin Arzon's “Strong as a Mother” pre / postnatal collection for Peloton Interactive.

Show us through innovation…like OkCupid, the only dating app with a pro-choice filter and profile badge, led by CMO Melissa Hobley.

Show us through benefits... like The Lactation Network, led by CEO Sarah Kellogg Neff.

Show us through research...like Motherly's 2022 State of Motherhood Survey Report, led by Jill Koziol.

Show us through the organizations you create...like Chamber of Mothers, a collective movement to focus America's priorities on mothers' rights.

Show us through the stories you tell...like Jessica Bennett and Jessica Grose's package for The New York Times, "The Primal Scream."

Show us through content…like Rachel Feldman’s upcoming feature film on Lilly Ledbetter and the Fair Pay Restoration Act of 2009.

Show us through your support of women’s rights over our own damn bodies, of our reproductive health.

No woman should become a mother who isn’t ready or interested in being one.

No mother should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term who isn’t ready or interested in having another child. Remember: 6 in 10 who have abortions are already mothers, and half of them have two or more children.

No more talk. Action.
