How it started. How it's going. 17 years together! We watched our wedding video on Father's Day and I was struck by what the Shinto priest who presided over our ceremony said. He said we were two imperfect and incomplete individuals who were uniting to build a more fulfilling life together. It will always be my greatest ***** and achievement that we have managed to do that. A tale of two cities: Vancouver at 8:20 am PST this morning, absolutely sweltering beneath the smoggy "heat dome" that brought record-breaking temperatures yesterday and today. (Lytton, BC today recorded the hottest temperature ever recorded in Canada: 47.5 C / 117.5 F). And Toronto 4 hrs. later at 3:30 EST, the city nicknamed "the Big Smoke" on a beautifully clear summer day. The temperature was a reasonable 27 C / 80.6 F when I landed. There's a moment in Ken Burns' "Baseball" when one of the pundits says she feels sorry for people who aren't baseball fans and everyone who IS a baseball fan knows exactly what she's talking about. Shohei Ohtani this season is Exhibit A. First player in a century we can legit compare to Ruth. Hit 2 more dingers tonight, first player this season to 30 home runs. When I took part in a virtual production workshop back in Feb. utilizing Unreal Engine environments projected onto LED video walls, it was plain to see that it would be a big part of the future of film & tv. Just 4 months later, I'm thrilled to be a part of "Synthesis," a series that hopes to shoot entirely in a virtual production studio. Their proof-of-concept trailer is happening as I write. There's an unassuming little sandwich shop on the northwest corner of Broadway and Granville in Vancouver: Kathy's Sandwich Shop and you've never seen a fresher, more tightly-wrapped wrap! This is the grilled chicken - turkey wrap here and it is delicious: crunchy vegetables, subtle spiciness, no sauce leaking out. I'm going to borrow a phrase of my son's to describe it: PRO SKILL.
