Dallas, after posting their best season in recent memory, was defeated 23-17 at home by the San Francisco 49ers in the opening weekend of this year's NFL playoffs. The Cowboys’ loss was certainly a letdown for a team with Super Bowl aspirations after finishing 12-5 and winning the NFC East.

  • CBS Sports PR has announced that their broadcast of the San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys playoff game on CBS and Nickelodeon was the most-watched Wild Card game of the last seven years.
No wonder that across the channel on FOX Sports, former Dallas QB Troy Aikman - working the Tampa Bay playoff blowout of the Eagles - was bemoaning the fact that he wasn’t doing the TV analyst of the Cowboys game on his network.

  • FRISCO - Dan Quinn got the top job as the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator a year ago, and the team was also able to retain George Edwards - who applied for the same job - to work under him as a senior assistant who has been coaching linebackers.
An NFL source tells CowboysSI.com that should Quinn leave after this season - he's now fielding interview requests for virtually every NFL opening and is being "zeroed in on'' by the Denver Broncos - there is support inside The Star for the elevation of Edwards.

  • The Dallas Cowboys losing Sunday was terrible for Jerry Jones but great for the rest of the NFL. The NFL head coach and general manager hiring cycle has been at a standstill since the end of the regular season. However, now that defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore can interview for and accept jobs, we expect that to change. Here’s the latest coaching/GM news and rumors on Day 8 of the NFL offseason.

  • The Hall of Fame quarterback said on his weekly radio show on KTCK/1310 AM “The Ticket” that he thinks it’s hard for some Cowboys players to keep a motivational edge playing for what is considered the most high profile, most valuable sports team in the world. “It’s an organization that it’s hard, I think, in order for them to keep an edge. And I think that’s important,” Aikman said. “The facility that they practice at is amazing. It’s the nicest in the NFL. There are tours that come through constantly. You’re constantly reminded that you’re a Dallas Cowboy and you’re really popular.”

  • The Seahawks are moving quick to find a replacement for former defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Seattle requested permission to interview Cowboys defensive passing game coordinator/secondary coach Joe Whitt Jr. for their DC vacancy.
Whitt has been coaching in the NFL since 2007. He’s bounced around recently, spending time with the Packers (2018), Browns (2019), Falcons (2020) and Cowboys (2021) over the past four years. Despite all of his roles, he’s maintained his job title of defensive passing game coordinator/secondary coach.

  • Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy readily admits that his team grossly underachieved in the 2021 season. A sweet 12-5 regular season came to a bitter end in a frustrating 23-17 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC wild card game last Sunday. He said the Cowboys were nervous to start the game and were mistake-prone throughout. They then combusted in the waning seconds as time literally expired on a final play that McCarthy still can’t fully explain.

  • Cincinnati Bengals vs Las Vegas Raiders:

Some NFL playoff games evoke epic events. Saturday night’s wild-card matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers is a clash of heavyweights with a history to match.

For an American football fan the words ‘The Catch’ conjure up a 41-year-old image of Joe Montana’s remarkable last-minute touchdown throw to Dwight Clark that gave the 49ers a 28-27 victory and a place in the Super.

  • Forget about the botched sequence at the end of the game, the complaining about the refs, a poor offensive game plan and the mystery behind Tony Pollard and CeeDee Lamb’s lack of usage in the season-ending loss to San Francisco in the NFC wild-card game.
After the pandemic hampered the Cowboys in 2020 and the failure of this season’s wild-card game, the pressure gets intensified in 2022.
“That’s what we focus on,” McCarthy said Wednesday afternoon in his postmortem news conference. “We’re not here to go backward. I think that’s part of the challenge. It’s part of the privilege of pressure of improvement in this league. Sustaining success is clearly, whatever level of success you attain, sustaining it is the biggest challenge in this league. I think history will point to that. And I know it’s been my personal experience.
