Punjab Oppn parties question AAP’s ‘dubious intentions’ after MP’s remarks on SYL project:

AAP MP Sushil Gupta’s promise to channel waters from SYL canal to Haryana’s fields has evoked sharp criticism from Opposition parties in Punjab, who are questioning the Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit’s “dubious intentions”.

In a statement, Punjab Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take all parties into confidence and prepare legal and administrative strategies in view of Haryana planning to file a contempt petition in the Supreme Court on the SYL issue.

“The enemy is at the gates, what are your preparations? The time to act is now, lest we may be too late,” he warned Mann.

The PCC president said two disturbing developments have taken shape during the last two days. On one hand, the BJP-led Haryana government is planning to approach the SC seeking implementation of its orders on construction of the SYL; on the other hand, AAP Haryana in-charge Sushil Gupta has announced that water from the SYL canal will reach every field in the state by 2025.

Indian Naval Ships Shivalik and Kadmatt on Thursday undertook maritime partnership exercise with Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) Ships Uraga and Hirado in the Bay of Bengal.
Both JMSDF ships are part of Minesweeper Division One and are on deployment to Indian Ocean Region with Captain Noguchi Yasushi, Commander Minesweeper Division One embarked on-board JS Uraga, said a statement of the Ministry of Defence.
The exercise was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, promoting defence cooperation, enhancing mutual understanding and inter-operability between the two navies and sharing best practices, it stated.

At the 2021 World Wrestling Championships, Indian wrestler Anshu Malik created history as she became the first Indian women finalist at the World Championship, and also the first female player from India to claim a silver medal. The 19-year old Anshu settled for a silver medal after losing to 2016 Olympic champion Helen Lousie Maroulis of the United States in a 57kg freestyle bout.
Till date, Indian women wrestlers Alka Tomar (2006), Geeta Phogat (2012), Babita Phogat (2012), Pooja Dhanda (2018) and Vinesh Phogat (2019) have been able to win a bronze each. Wrestler Sushil Kumar (2010) is the lone wrestler from India to win World Championship till date. Besides this, Sarita Mor claimed her maiden medal by winning bronze in the 59kg category at the 2021 World Wrestling Championships being held at Oslo, Norway from October 02 to 10, 2021.

Silver, silver burning bright:

As Anshu Malik lay on the mat disconsolate, holding her left elbow and shoulder after the loss by fall against Helen Maroulis in the women’s 57 kg final in the world wrestling championships at Oslo, her American opponent commiserated her, patting her back. Though the 20-year-old Indian had lost the bout—missing out on becoming India’s first woman world wrestling champion, and the second from her country after Sushil Kumar—she had already made history.

No Indian woman had ever reached the summit clash of a World Wrestling Championship, no one has even come close; even in the men’s category, just five have progressed this far into the Worlds. The journey, the heartbreaks and setbacks she endured to reach where she did, is a heartwarming narrative in itself.
