• World's highest weather station installed on Mt. Everest:

Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) said the automatic weather station was installed a few metres below the summit point (8,848.86 metres) last week as the snow and ice on the summit are not suitable for fixing equipment.

The weather monitoring system, powered by solar energy, is supposed to measure various meteorological phenomena like air temperature, wind speed and direction, air pressure, change in surface height of snow, and incoming and outgoing short and long wave radiation.

The NatGeo team, led by climate scientist Baker Perry from the Appalachian State University in the US, consisted of acclaimed climbers and scientists, many of whom scaled the world’s highest peak while installing the weather station.

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Punjab Kings look to end season on a high; Their play-off hopes dashed, both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings will be keen to end their IPL season on a winning note when the two teams clash in a dead rubber on Sunday. Both teams were knocked out of the play-off race when RCB defeated table-toppers Gujarat Titans on Thursday.

The Sunrisers will be without the services of their skipper Kane Williamson, who has returned to New Zealand for the birth of his second child. In his absence, either Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has led the side previously, or Nicholas Pooran are are likely to captain the Sunrisers in their last game this season.

  • ‘Saw him giving suggestions to world-class bowler like Rabada’:

    Harbhajan makes bold India prediction for uncapped pacer;
The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League saw the emergence of multiple quality domestic players. While Umran Malik stood out for the Sunrisers Hyderabad for his incredible pace, the likes of Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Tilak Varma, and Abhishek Sharma also produced consistent performances for their respective franchises in the season. One such player who, on paper, didn’t take as many wickets but delivered in crunch moments for his side was Punjab Kings’ Arshdeep Singh.
The left-armer took 10 wickets in 13 matches and bowled at a decent economy rate of 7.82; a more impressive aspect of his bowling was his ability to nail yorkers at will – especially in death overs. And that is what impressed former India spinner Harbhajan Singh, who believes that Arshdeep is not far away from an India call-up.

  • 'The shot Virat played against Rashid was just…':

Sachin Tendulkar has his say on Kohli's return to form in IPL 2022; Nearly two months and 13 matches later, Virat Kohli finally played like… well, the Virat Kohli. The superstar India batter, who had been struggling for runs, played a vintage Kohli-esque knock, scoring a fine 73 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Gujarat Titans in an IPL 2022 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This was Kohli's second half-century of the current IPL season, and while the previous one too had come against GT, this one had a Kohli stamp to it.

"The shot Virat played against Rashid, to reach his fifty, was just brilliant. I thought he noticed that it's a leg spinner, and the length of the ball was close to his feet, and at the last moment, he used his wrist to give it elevation. I loved it because it wasn't a wild slog at all. He read the bowler well and being aware of the length, he played that shot at the last moment. Overall, Virat batted brilliantly I felt and Faf played a superb supporting role. That was smart cricket," said Tendulkar.

  • Dhoni to continue playing for CSK in IPL 2023:

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni confirmed on Friday that he will be back next year playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Chennai franchise.

"Definitely, I will play next year. It would be unfair to not play in Chennai. It won't be nice to the CSK fans. Whether 2023 will be my last year or not, that is something we will have to see," Dhoni said when asked if he would continue playing for CSK in IPL 2023. Dhoni did not entirely rule out playing the 2024 edition.

"And also, hopefully, next year there will be an opportunity where the teams will be travelling so it will be like a thank you to all the different places where we will be playing games at different venues. Whether it will be my last year or not, that's a big question because you know we can't really predict something two years down the line, but definitely, I'll be working hard to come back strong next year."

  • EXPLAINER | Why monkeypox cases are rising in Europe:

A handful of cases of monkeypox have now been reported or are suspected in the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain.
The outbreaks are raising alarm because the disease mostly occurs in west and central Africa, and only very occasionally spreads elsewhere.
Monkeypox is a virus that causes fever symptoms as well as a distinctive bumpy rash. It is usually mild, although there are two main strains: the Congo strain, which is more severe with up to 10% mortality and the West African strain, which has a fatality rate of more like 1% of cases. The UK cases have been reported as the West African strain.
