  • When Valmiki completed his Ramayana, Narada said 'It's good, but Hanuman's is better.’

This made Valmiki wonder and he found Hanuman's Ramayana inscribed on 7 broad leaves of a banana tree.

He read it and found it to be perfect. The most exquisite choice of grammar and vocabulary, meter and melody.

He was overwhelmed and started to cry.

'Is it so bad?' asked Hanuman.

'No, it is so good', said Valmiki

'Then why are you crying?' asked Hanuman.

‘Because after reading your Ramayana no one will read mine,' replied Valmiki.

Hearing this Hanuman tore the banana leaves stating ‘Now no one will ever read mine!’

    ‘But why?’ asked Valmiki.

Hanuman said, 'You need your Ramayana more than me. You wrote yours so that the world remembers you; I wrote mine so that I remember Ram.'

At that moment Valmiki realized how he had been consumed by the desire for validation. He had not used the work to liberate himself.

#like His Ramayana was a product of ambition, but Hanuman's Ramayana was a product of devotion. That's why Hanuman's Ramayana was so much better.

There are people like Hanuman who don't want to be famous. They just do their jobs and fulfill their purpose.

There are many unsung ‘Hanumans’ in our lives too. Our spouses, parents, friends, colleagues.

Let's remember them and be grateful for them.

  • Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib:

Gurdwara Bhatta Sahib: As He approached Ropar, Guru ji's advance was blocked by a group of Pathans. Both the sides indulged in swordplay resulting in many losing their lives. Managing to repulse the Pahans they advanced towards Ropar then they reached the village of Kotla Nihang Khan with the Mughal army at their heels. Guru ji rode straight towards a brick kiln where he asked the workers, firing the kiln, about a safe place. The innocent labourers jokingly directed them towards the fire driven brick kiln with only the bricks of its top standing just above the mounds of dirt insulating its sides.

According to Sikh history, as soon as the horse of the Guru put its hooves on the kiln, the hot kiln got cold. In awe of the sight the owner of the Kiln asked to become a Sikh and received Pahul from the Guru. The "new Sikhs" now known in history as Nihang Khan risked his live hiding one of the Guru's wounded Sikhs. A grateful Guru Gobind Singh gifted the brave man with some of his personal items. Today you can visit the Gurdwara Bhattha Sahib and have a look the sword and shield of Guru ji. Gurdwara Bhattha Sahib ji is 40 kilometres away from Anandpur Sahib.

Bahman Majra: From Kotla Nihang Khan, Guru ji reached Bahman Majra via Lakhmipur. He rested here for some time, at the Gurudwara Manji Sahib here. This place is situated in 25 kilometres away east of Chandigarh-Ropar road.

Bur Majra: This place is 55 kilometres away form Anandpur Sahib. Guru ji stopped for a needed rest here, as well, until he learned that the Mughal army was once again hot on his trail.

  • Guru Granth Sahib becomes Guru:

He, in grateful acknowledgement of the spiritual benefactions of the founder of his religion, uttered a Persian distich, the translation of which is:

"Gobind Singh obtained from Guru Nanak Hospitality, the sword, victory, and prompt assistance."

(These lines were impressed on a seal made by the Sikhs after the Guru left for his heavenly abode, and were adopted by Ranjit Singh for his coinage after he had assumed the title of Maharaja in the Punjab)

The Guru then left for his heavenly abode. The Sikhs made preparations for his final rites as he had instructed them, the Sohila was chanted and Parsahd (sacred food) was distributed. While all were mourning the loss, a Sikh arrived and said," You suppose that the Guru is dead. I met him this very morning riding his bay horse. After bowing to him, I asked where he was going. He smiled and replied that he was going to the forest." The Sikhs who heard this statement arrived at the conclusion that it was all the Guru's play, that he dwelt in uninterrupted bliss, that he showed himself wherever he was remembered. He who treasures even a grain of the Lord's love in his heart, is the blessed one and the Guru reveals himself to such a devotee in mysterious ways.

Wherefore for such a Guru who had departed bodily to Heaven, there ought to be no mourning. The Word as contained in the Guru Granth Sahib was henceforth, and for all time to come to be the Guru for the Sikhs.

  • To them this appeared like a repeat of the same disaster that had befallen them an hour or two ago. They had not even had time to recover from the previous shock and now they had a second wave of the same enormously vibrant energy. This time the enemy was driven even further back; many just took flight as they thought that the Sikh numbers must have increased and so many of the enemy deserted the battlefield. This new force of six Khalsa soldiers killed many hundreds of the enemy; many simply ran away.

The enemy were stunned by the heavy force and thrust of this second attack and had little choice but to retreat back. The Khalsa unit created a huge void in the enemy territory and a small circle of about 35 metres within the enemy ground was under the control of the Sikhs. No one had the courage to enter into this circle of control. Anyone who entered this area of command was immediately challenged and quickly extinguished. The Khalsa unit, with their backs to the centre of this circular area attacked the enemy courageously and with vigour at the perimeter of the controlled region.

The Guru watched this development with ***** and gratefulness to the Almighty and he knew that the Sikhs had learned the lessons of warfare well and would soon join the many hundreds of Sikh martyrs who had attained the highest honour of Dharam. The Almighty had indeed blessed the Sahibzade and the Sikhs with true bravery and deepest understanding of the Guru's message.

Slowly, due to the huge number of the enemy, they eventually assembled around Baba Jujhar Singh. He was now surrounded and had a Neja (spear) in his hand. Wherever the Neja hit, the enemy was destroyed. He also used a Khanda (double-sword), with which he killed the enemy as a farmer mows down his crop. Guru saw that Jujhar Singh was being surrounded and the opportunity to kill the Mughal soldiers was decreasing. For over 2 hours the Khalsa unit had continued to desolated the enemy. They were becoming tired.

  • Battle of Kartarpur:

The Battle of Kartarpur was caused by the Pathan Painde Khan who had been a loyal friend and supporter of the Guru. Turning against the Guru he first went to the Subedar of Jullundhur, Qutab Khan, who accompanied him to the Court of the Emperor who despatched a strong force against the Guru. Kale Khan, the brother of Mukhlis Khan, was given the command of fifty thousand men. Qutab Khan, Painde Khan, Anwar Khan and Asman Khan were commissioned to fight under Kale Khan.

Learning of the impending attack Bhai Bidhi Chand, Bhai Jati Mal, Bhai Lakhu, and Bhai Rai Jodh had arranged their troops on the four sides of the city before the imperial army chiefs advanced against them. The force, mostly of Pathans, was overpowered by the brave Sikhs who were fighting for their religion and their Guru. Bidhi Chand engaged Kale Khan, and Baba Gurditta, the Guru's eldest son took on Asman Khan. Even Tegh Mal (later on the ninth Guru) who was only fourteen years old, showed feats of valor in the field earning the honorary addition to his name of Tegh Bahadur.

Painde Khan with drawn sword confronted the Guru directing some profane words towards the Master. In the words of Mohsan Fani, a Muslim historian of that time, the Guru addressed him with:

"Painde Khan, why use such words when the sword is in your hand. Brave as you are my boy, come I give you full leave to strike first. I have no grudge against you. But you are full of wrath. You can wreak your rage by striking the first blow."
Painde Khan then aimed a heavy blow at the Guru who parried it off. The Guru allowed him again to strike - also in vain. Infuriated with his double failure, he gave a third blow which also missed the Guru. The Master then urged him:

"Come, my boy, I will teach you how to strike. Not your way but this."
Saying this he gave him such strong blow that Painde Khan fell to the ground mortally wounded. From this blow he seemed to have regained his old sense of discipleship. The Guru told him:

"Thou art a Musalman. Now is the time to repeat your kalma (creed)." Painde Khan replied, "O master, your sword is my kalma and my source of salvation."
The Guru on seeing him dying was filled with pity, and by putting his shield over his face so as to shade it from the sun, he said, "Painde Khan, I cherished you, I reared you, and I made you a hero. Though men spoke ill of you, I forgot all your failings, and nothing entered my mind against you; but destiny misled you so much that you brought an army against me. It is your own acts of ingratitude and insolence that have led to your death at my hands. Though you have been ungrateful and untrue to your salt, I pray the Almighty to grant you a dwelling in heaven."

After all his chiefs were slain, Kale Khan confronted the Guru. He discharged an arrow which whizzed past him. A second arrow grazed the Guru's forehead, and drops of blood bespattered his face. He remarked, "Kale Khan, I have seen your science. Now see mine." At this he discharged an arrow which killed Kale Khan's horse. The Guru thought it a point of honor also to dismount and offer his adversary a choice of arms. Sparks of fire issued from clash of sword on sword. He parried all his strokes and commented, "Not thus, this is the way to fence." He then dealt Kale Khan a blow with his two-edged scimitar which severed his head from his body. On this the imperial soldiers fled for their lives as Bidhi Chand and Jati Mal shouted slogans of victory.
Battle of Kartarpur: The Battle of Kartarpur was caused by the Pathan Painde Khan who had been a loyal friend and supporter of the Guru. In the words of Mohsan Fani, a Muslim historian of that time, the Guru addressed him with: "Painde Khan, why use such words when the sword is in your hand. Brave as you are my boy, come I give you full leave to strike first. I have no grudge against you. But you are full of wrath. You can wreak your rage by striking the first blow." Painde Khan then aimed a heavy blow at the Guru who parried it off. The Guru allowed him again to strike - also in vain. Infuriated with his double failure, he gave a third blow which also missed the Guru. The Master then urged him: "Come, my boy, I will teach you how to strike. Not your way but this." Saying this he gave him such strong blow that Painde Khan fell to the ground mortally wounded. From this blow he seemed to have regained his old sense of discipleship. The Guru told him: "Thou art a Musalman. Now is the time to repeat your kalma (creed)." Painde Khan replied, "O master, your sword is my kalma and my source of salvation." The Guru on seeing him dying was filled with pity, and by putting his shield over his face so as to shade it from the sun, he said, "Painde Khan, I cherished you, I reared you, and I made you a hero. Though men spoke ill of you, I forgot all your failings, and nothing entered my mind against you; but destiny misled you so much that you brought an army against me. It is your own acts of ingratitude and insolence that have led to your death at my hands. Though you have been ungrateful and untrue to your salt, I pray the Almighty to grant you a dwelling in heaven." After all his chiefs were slain, Kale Khan confronted the Guru. He discharged an arrow which whizzed past him. A second arrow grazed the Guru's forehead, and drops of blood bespattered his face. He remarked, "Kale Khan, I have seen your science. Now see mine." • Dallas Cowboys playoff picture:

It is often said that the NFL is a week-to-week league. We seem to be reminded of that after every round of games this year. Sunday was a Dallas Cowboys win which we are all grateful for, but it also brought some interesting results across the rest of the league as everyone is now officially back from bye.
While the week will last into Tuesday there were some notable results on Sunday that had nothing to do with the Cowboys that ultimately had everything to do with the Cowboys. As Dallas picked up its 10th win of the season the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers both lost, keeping them at 10 wins on the season which has vaulted America’s Team to the second overall seed at present moment.
