The Seahawks are moving quick to find a replacement for former defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Seattle requested permission to interview Cowboys defensive passing game coordinator/secondary coach Joe Whitt Jr. for their DC vacancy.
Whitt has been coaching in the NFL since 2007. He’s bounced around recently, spending time with the Packers (2018), Browns (2019), Falcons (2020) and Cowboys (2021) over the past four years. Despite all of his roles, he’s maintained his job title of defensive passing game coordinator/secondary coach.

On Thursday, a new page turned in South Africa’s maritime industry when a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket blasted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The rocket launched the Transporter-3 mission, SpaceX’s third dedicated Smallsat Rideshare program. Onboard were 105 small commercial and government spacecraft, including a tiny set of three South African satellites - an inaugural component of space infrastructure to help the government monitor shipping activities off the South African coastline.
About one hour after the Falcon 9 launch, the three components of the MDASat-1 constellation were released into the orbit.
The constellation’s name, MDASat, is derived from the government’s Maritime Domain Awareness project. The three satellites will facilitate South Africa in monitoring its exclusive economic zone using AIS data. The Cape Peninsular University of Technology (CPUT) in Cape Town made the three satellites.

Cordarrelle Patterson had the best season of his career with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, and heading into NFL free agency in a couple of months, Patterson has made his preference clear: He'd like to stay in Atlanta.
And he's going about sharing his desire for a new deal in a different way: on his shoes.
Patterson posted a pair of cleats on Wednesday portraying two people on what appears to be a bus with one saying, "Cut the check Mr Blank," less than a week after he wore cleats during Atlanta's season finale saying, "Why not retire in Atlanta?"

2:03 p.m. - Dan Quinn was rather adamant on Monday that he remains focused on the 49ers this week.
Still, teams with head coaching vacancies seemed focused on him as yet another team has requested permission to interview Quinn.
According to multiple national reports, the Miami Dolphins became the fourth team to seek an interview for Quinn, who is in his first season as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator but has five years of head coaching experience with the Falcons.

Sunday night’s win by the Packers clinched the No. 1 seed for Green Bay and it also ensured the Eagles of a ticket to the dance, which means there’s not a whole lot of suspense left for the final week of the season in the NFC.
One spot remains available in the postseason tournament and it will belong to the 49ers if they are able to beat the Rams for the sixth straight time in Week 18. If they don’t, the Saints will be in with a win over the Falcons. Should the 49ers prevail, the Cardinals can leapfrog the Rams for the NFC West title with a win over the Seahawks so that 49ers-Rams game is easily the most consequential matchup in the conference in the final week.

NFL Week 17 takeaways:

Week 17 of the 2021 NFL season featured blowouts by the Bears and Patriots, a three-touchdown game by Bengals rookie Ja'Marr Chase that fueled an AFC North-clinching win over the Chiefs and a comeback by the Bucs during which Antonio Brown took off his uniform and left the field during the third quarter. Yes, you read that correctly.
Elsewhere in the early games, the Titans clinched the AFC South title, the Rams came back to beat the Ravens, the Bills used a stellar second half to stop the Falcons, the Raiders upset the Colts and the Eagles topped Washington, boosting their NFC playoff hopes.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will get a chance to defend their Super Bowl LV title.
On Sunday, the Buccaneers clinched their first NFC South title since 2007 by beating the Carolina Panthers, 32-6, in Charlotte. The victory improved Tampa Bay's record to 11-4 and eliminated their last competition for the division crown, the New Orleans Saints. The Saints play the Miami Dolphins on Monday night but, with a 7-7 record, can get no more than 10 wins by season's end. The Panthers and Atlanta Falcons had been eliminated from division contention two weeks earlier.

Pro Bowl snubs and surprises:

The 2021 Pro Bowl rosters have been released and they include the usual suspects -- Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has earned a record 15th invitation -- as well as a few newcomers, notably Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, the league's leading vote-getter, and Rams wideout Cooper Kupp, who leads the NFL in receiving yards, catches and touchdowns.
The Colts had the most players selected (seven) of any team, while the Giants, Jets, Jaguars, Broncos, Lions and Texans did not have any players make the roster. The four rookies to make the team are Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts, Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase and Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater.

On Sunday against a bad Giants team, the Cowboys managed only 328 total yards and two touchdowns all game long. Dak Prescott averaged less than six yards per attempt and had another turnover late in the fourth quarter. And Dallas scored only 21 points against a team they put up 44 on last time they met.
So what the heck is up with this headline, you may ask.
The Cowboys offense did not, by any stretch of the imagination, light up the scoreboard this week. It wasn’t the triumphant return to form that their performance against the Falcons was earlier this year. And the truth is they left some points on the field in this game.
